Kathryn Andrews Personal Photography Project: Ghetto Unfabulous Week 3

Kathryn Andrews Personal Photography Project Ghetto Unfabulous

I knew it would be tricky to keep doing regular posts for this personal photography project... it's not because I haven't been taking the photos, there just doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to write up the blog posts. A few weeks ago (it was still January) I did a boudoir shoot for a client at her home somewhere in the south of England. Keith came with me and on the way back we took a detour through Southampton. St Mary's to be precise. St Mary's is an interesting area to say the least and has changed considerably over the years. I'm more interested in the way society as a whole have left some areas to become less desirable. The way society leaves perfectly good buildings and communal areas to become an eyesore. I could have photographed the homes I just mentioned but it just didn't feel right. Then I … [Read more...]

While I predominantly photograph beautiful weddings, I also enjoy taking photos for fun or to simply practise and improve on my skills as a photographer. Usually I don't post my personal photography projects on the internet but this year I've decided to push myself to take more photographs for my own professional development. By keeping photographs to myself, it's a little too easy to become complacent and skip a few days. By posting my images regularly online, I feel obliged to go out and take more photos. I recently bought myself a new lens... a Nikon 35mm wide angle lens to be precise. To date I have been using my 60mm macro lens, a 24-70mm and a 70-200mm. These have been great and I still plan to use them, but I've started to feel a little lazy with my zoom lenses. They don't challenge me. This is why I'm venturing into the world of prime lenses. Prime lenses offer superior quality, especially in low light and they challenge you to move around more until you find that perfect … [Read more...]
